Rotator Cuff Arthropathy

Rotator cuff arthropathy is a condition where there is severe shoulder arthritis in the setting of an irreparable rotator cuff tear.

The rotator cuff consists of four muscles that become tendons as they attach to the shoulder. The rotator cuff may be torn due to an injury, aging, overuse of the shoulder or severe arthritis. An untreated rotator cuff tear can also lead to arthritis because the decrease in muscular support allows the bones to rub against one another.

Symptoms of Rotator Cuff Arthropathy:

  • Severe pain when rotating and elevating the arm

  • Decreased range of motion

  • Atrophy of the muscles around the shoulder worsens

  • Feeling like the shoulder may give-way because it is so weak

  • Shoulder may be tender to the touch

  • Potential dislocation may occur when attempting to lift the arm

Please schedule a consultation with Los Angeles orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Millstein for detailed information about rotator cuff arthropathy.
